Birla A1 OrientGreen Cement is the need of the hour. It is made responsibly by using minimum energy and natural resources. Thereby being eco-friendly and playing a significant part to save the planet.
OrientGreen cement has been given ‘GreenPro’ certification by The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - Green Products and Services Council. Which means OrientGreen has lower environment impact and contributes significantly for enhancing the performance of Green Buildings and Green Companies. Which means it helps conserve natural resources and offer a better environment for living – both indoor and outdoor.
OrientGreen cement is engineered by grinding superior strength clinker with processed mineral admixture containing high reactive silica which offers long term strength gain. The superior chemical properties resolve concerns related to efflorescence as it ensures that there’s no leakage or seepage in the structure.
OrientGreen cement has spherical cement particles, and they have higher fineness value. Due to the spherical shape, concrete moves more freely and more fineness of particles allows better filling of the pores which gives better cohesiveness. OrientGreen cement also reduces the rate of slump loss of concrete as compared to concrete made with OPC, particularly in hot weather conditions.
OrientGreen cement prolongs the setting time of concrete, which helps the mason for smoothening concrete or cement mortar. The cohesiveness of concrete mix contributes to the smoothness of concrete.
Bleeding is a type of segregation in which some of the water in the concrete mix tends to rise to the surface of fresh concrete. As a result of bleeding, the top surface becomes too wet and concrete will become porous, weak and non-durable. OrientGreen cement reduces bleeding by providing greater volume and lower water content for a given workability. This also helps in blocking bleed water channels.
The strength and rate of strength gain of concrete made with OrientGreen will be equivalent to ordinary concrete at 28 days. The silicate formation of OrientGreen continues even after the rate of hydration slows down. This results in increased strength gain at later ages. This higher rate of strength gain will continue with time and result in higher later age strength.
The bond or adhesion of concrete to steel is dependent on the contact area of steel with concrete, the depth of reinforcement and density of concrete. OrientGreen being finer in nature usually increases paste volume and reduces bleeding. Thus, the contact will be increased, resulting in improved bond with steel.
The hydration of OrientGreen is a slower than hydration of ordinary cement, resulting in slower heat generation and lower internal stresses in concrete. Thus, OrientGreen becomes the ideal cement for mass concreting like dams, retaining walls, large foundations, etc.
OrientGreen in concrete helps in reducing drying shrinkage and plastic shrinkage. Drying shrinkage is reduced because of lower internal concrete stresses and slower heat generation. Plastic shrinkage is also reduced considerably because concrete bleeds less at a given slump. This makes concrete crack resistant.
If concrete has interconnecting void spaces, then it becomes permeable. In OrientGreen concrete, the lime [Ca (OH)2] liberated during initial hydration is consumed by reactive silica and forms an insoluble cementitious compound instead of leaching on the concrete surface. This helps in reducing void spaces and blocking capillary channels, and subsequently reducing permeability of concrete, which in turn adds to the concrete’s durability.
OrientGreen offers higher resistance to chemical attack and steel corrosion. It also reduces the chances of shrinkage and thermal cracks, which ultimately increases the life of the structure and reduces maintenance cost.
