Did you know that the water to cement ratio plays an important influence on the quality of concrete affecting its strength and durability? But what is water-cement ratio?

 Types of cement

Water to cement ratio plays a vital role in the quality of concrete

Water Cement Ratio is the ratio of weight of water to weight of cement in a concrete mix. It has an important influence on the quality of concrete produced. Ideal water cement ratio is 22-23 i.e. (1 bag of cement: 22-23 ltr water).

 Types of cement

Ideal water cement ratio is 1 bag of cement: 22-23ltr water

A lower ratio leads to higher strength and durability, but may make the mix difficult to work with and form. Too much water will result in segregation of the sand and aggregates in concrete. It makes the concrete slurry which will escape through the joints of the Formwork. In the table below, you can see what you can achieve with different water-cement ratios

W/C Ratio Result
0.38-0.4 Becomes too hard too soon
0.4-0.5 Ideal for ease of use
>0.5 Ideal for ease of use
